Configuration
Dialup access configuration and setup:
Below is some information regarding setting up dial-up access for older Windows systems. If you are running a Mac or a version of Windows more recent that 98, you can contact us directly for assistance.

Double Click 'My Computer' Folder on your PC Desktop

Double Click 'Dial-up Networking' Folder

Double click on the 'Make New Connection' Icon

At this point you are prompted to type in a name for this Connection

Type in DATEC (PNG) LTD
It will also prompt you to select a modem Modem installation Dialogue will be presented if you have not done so
Enter one of the four (4) Dial-in numbers :

- Enter 675 for the area code
- Select Papua New Guinea (675) as the Country code
- Click NEXT
- Click on Finish and the computer will return to the Dial-up Networking Folder.
By now you should have another Icon created for Datec.
- Move the cursor up to Datec Icon and do a Right Mouse Click once
- Select Properties from the Drop-down menu
- Untick Use Country code and Area Code
- Click on the Configure button, and the Modem Configuration Dialogue will appear.
- Click General TAB on top Window, reduce the modem speed to at least 38400
- Click OK to take you back to main DATEC (PNG)LTD Window
- Click on Server Types Tab
- Select 'PPP, Windows 95, Windows NT, Internet' as the Dial-up Server
- Under Advanced options:
Untick Log onto Network Tick Enable Software Compression Untick Require encrypted password Under Allowed Network Protocols: Untick NetBUEI Untick IPX/SPX Compatible Tick TCP/IP
- Click on the TCP/IP Settings Button.
Select Server Assigned IP Address Select Specify Name Server Addresses On the Primary DNS, type 202.95.200.3 On the Secondary DNS, type 202.95.200.131 Tick Use IP Header Compression Tick Use Default Gateway on remote Network
- Click OK
- Click OK
- Close Dial-up Networking Window
- Close My Computer Window
Email Configurations
The following email settings are required when setting up your email client:
POP3 Server: mail.datec.net.pg SMTP Server: mail.datec.net.pg POP3 Account Name: accountname@datec.net.pg Password: Same as your dial-up password
To see detailed instructions for popular email clients try the following:
Outlook Express:
1. Launch Outlook Express
2. Click on TOOLS on the Menu Bar
3. Select ACCOUNTS from the drop-down menu
4. Click on MAIL Tab
5. Click on ADD and select MAIL.
By now, a WIZARD will be activated.
6. Following the Wizard, type the following:-
Your Name
Email Address
POP3 & SMTP Mail Server Name (mail.datec.net.pg)
POP3 Account Name (your email address)
7. Select the Dial-up networking which is the Datec one that you have created.
Once the Wizard has been completed, you then check the properties of the Mail account you have just created.
8. High-light the Account Name you have just created and select PROPERTIES
9. Under General, ensure the required parameters are properly filled out
Your Name
Your Email address
Your Reply to Address
10. Under Servers, again check the parameters Mail Server Names for POP3 and SMTP Password
11. under Connection, ensure that correct Connection option is selected (either LAN or MODEM) If you are on a NETWORK, select to connect using a Local Area Network (LAN) If you are on a stand-alone PC, select to connect using My Phone Line
12. Once everything is Completed, Click Okay and execute your connection to Email and Internet When you click on the Internet Browser Icon, a Connect window should appear with a Username and Password fields, number to dial and Name of Service Provider. If this Window does not come up, go through the options as listed above.
On the 'Connect To' screen, click on the connect button

Netscape
1. Open Netscape Navigator
2. From the Tool bar, select OPTIONS
3. Select Mail and News Preferences from the drop down menu
4. Select SERVERS from the Tab or Card files
5. Type 'mail.datec.net.pg' on the Outgoing (SMTP) and Incoming (POP3) server
6. Type your LOGIN NAME in the POP3 USER NAME field
7. Select 'Identity' from the Tab
8. Type your name in 'Your Name' field
9. Type your e-mail address in 'Your E-mail:' field
10. Type your e-mail address again in 'Reply to Address' field
11. Type your organization in 'Your Organization' field
12. Click APPLY
13. Click OK
14. Select Window from the Tool bar
15. Select Netscape Mail from the drop down menu
16. Click on Get Mail button
17. Enter your POP3 PASSWORD on the password field
18. Click OK
19. Select Network Preferences . from the drop down menu
20. Select Proxies from the Tab
21. Select 'NO Proxy'
22. Click OK
